Garbage/Recycling Pick-Up Guidelines

  • Garbage/recycling carts must be at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on your collection day, but no sooner than 6:00 p.m. the day before.
  • Keep carts at least four (4) feet apart and four (4) feet from any fixed structure (mailbox, trees, cars, utility poles, etc.).
  • Remove carts from the curb by midnight on your collection day.
  • When not at the curb, carts may not be stored in front of any building, house, or garage visible from the street.

Garbage

  • Residents must use the gray cart for garbage. Such cart must be obtained from the Village.

  • Garbage must be bagged and must fit in the container so as to allow the lid to close.

  • Large garbage items are collected during the scheduled Bulk Pick-Up Weeks. Learn more.

Recycling

  • Residents may use either the blue or green carts for recycling. Such carts must be obtained from the Village.

  • Commingled recyclables must be placed loosely in the recycling container and must fit in the container so as to allow the lid to close.

  • Do not put plastic bags in the recycling cart.

Recycle Right

Remember the following:

  • No plastic bags- place all recyclables loosely in your cart.
  • No shredded paper- take confidential papers to a shred event for shredding and recycling.
  • Flatten and cut cardboard to fit inside cart.
  • Empty and rinse all containers- Don’t forget to replace the screw caps.

Commingle

Mix all your recyclables into 1 cart.

Commingled recycling is an efficient, cost effective, and environmentally friendly recycling method. It reduces the number of carts needed for collection, which reduces the number of stops needed to complete a collection route, saving the Village time and resources.

Fill it Up

If your recycle cart is less than 1/2 full on collection day, continue to fill it until the next collection day.

Don’t overfill the cart, you must be able to close the lid when full.

Damaged Garbage/Recycling Carts

It is the responsibility of the property owner to replace damaged carts by purchasing a new one from the Village.

Carts were originally purchased by the Village for each residential property in 2004. They have exceeded their life expectancy and after years of regular use, frigid temperatures and harsh sunlight, the carts are beginning to break down. Going forward, it is the responsibility of the property owner to purchase a new one from the Village.

The cost of a new bin is $70.00 each. They can be purchased here or in person at Village Hall. Once paid for, they will be delivered to you.
